KAV had problems with Windows XP, but they have been fixed since v
4.5. Many writers here are still concerned about KAV stability.

I gave it a trial and it caused my Office 2003 Word and Excel to attempt to
recover from errors after exiting them. I tried removing and installing
Office in many different configurations trying to figure out what was
corrupted. It resolved as soon as I uninstalled KAV Pro which was the last
thing I was going to attempt before a fresh XP install.

i don't have office 2003 installed on my system and thus it didn't
cause problems. how's the best way to really uninstall KAV Pro 4.5.xx
without reformatting? what about Fsecure or Fprot for alternatives?

You should have tried to disable KAV:s office guard first. Your office
files are protected also without it.

I just went to the control panel in XP under Add/Remove Programs and
uninstalled it.

I started with Norton Antivirus Pro 2003 when it first came out and it
worked well. I then bought Norton Antivirus 2004 and the additional malware
scanning was nice, but the thing started to require me to activate it over
and over again. This is a known issue and I applied Symantec's patch, but
it never fixed it. I then tried Panda Internet Security and it had the bad
habit of disabling parts of itself randomly, but it detected everything. I
tried NOD32 and was happy with it and its speed, but having to cancel the
"modify" prompt after running the on demand scanner wore on me. Then I
tried KAV Pro which gave me the Office 2003 issues. I'm back to Norton
Antivirus 2003 which is stable and without any quirks. How well it performs
compared to others in detection may be debatable.

I can`t tell you the difference between KAV 4.5 and the version I use on XP home;
3.5.113, but have been using it for 9 months with no problems. Used it for sometime
before on W98 and 98SE.

I use F-prot for windows as a second AV pgm and recommend it. It has been updated 4-5
times this week. Usually updated weekly if no viruses are causing problems.
Both are fast with this 3 GB processor:>)
