Peter

For a long time I have used version 3.5.133 and have been very happy
with it. I like the classical easy access to all settings as
opposed to the "Simplified" configuration technique of version
5.0.121 which I have been playing with for a a couple of days.

My systemis XP Pro, my mail is POP3.

Please, can anyone give me a good reason for switching to the later
version?

Thanks in advance,

Peter

I agree with you about version 3.5.133. Why are you concerned about
later versions if you like this one?

At the back of my mind I was wondering whether V5 offered better
incoming E-mail protection.

But why should you care? Just use a decent email app like Pegasus or
Mozilla mail. And simply delete all unsolicited attackments. Save ones
you trust and think you might want to a test folder and scan them with
KAV.

I've been using the new version 5 for the past few days and as someone
who used V3 a long time ago, I too was concerned about the lack of
configurability, but in the end the bottom line is does the program do
what you want it to do and for me, it does. I don't really care if it
has a bunch of preset levels as long as one of those preset levels does
what I want the program to do. In any event, you can get some level of
configurability by selecting the most secure level and clicking on
troubshooting and then disabling the features you don't want.

Also the new KAV is much better for email since it will automatically
scan incomming email before it gets to your client, much like NAV does
which up until a few days ago was the product I've been using for the
past 2 years.

If it works for you and you like it, why are you asking for someone to
convince you otherwise?

You have too much time on your hands ;).

That is just what I do but with Agent 1.91 and 2.0. KAV 3.5 is back
on the PC and I feel much more comfortable. Why two versions of
Agent? Well I have six separate installations (3 x ISP x NG and 3 x
ISP x Mail) and I have not got round to switching them all to 2.0.

It has been good to talk over this minor point with a like-thinking
person, thank you.

Oh no! My posting and the constructive replies saved my time by
using other peoples experience!

Yes. The ability to scan incoming E-mail does save the need for
scanning manually after receipt - a definite "Plus". I still am not
sure whether this plus is more than offset by the feeling of being
held at a distance from the configuration.

Also, I suppose that it is socially reponsible to scan outgoing
E-mail although this should not be necessary.

My PC has three system partitions each of which has KAV V3
installed. I find that it is very simple to keep the virus database
all three KAV installations up to date with one update download then
copying the "AVP Shared" folder from one system to the next. Would
it be as easy with V5? I have not looked at the file structure of
it to find out.

TIA

Peter.

PS. Optikl, please note that I hope to save my time yet again by
benefiting from someone else's experience. Being well past the
biblical life allotment of "Three score and ten" years I am becoming
accutely concious that my time is not unlimited.
