Kaspersky personal version 5 key location

Can somebody advise me exactly where the license key is hiding in
version 5 personal , exactly what folder is it in? [xp pro]

I have just updated to version 5 from version 35133 and i cannot see
the key in any of the normal locations, in 35133 it was in common
files, avp shared, no such folder now with version 5.

The program is working 100% ok, just the key is not visible and a
search did not reveal its hiding place.

C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal is where my
key is located - but not sure if that was where I put it on the software
did.

AFAIK keyfile (.key) is located...

c:/documents and settings/all users/application data/kaspersky lab

The folder 'Kaspersky Lab' is hidden therefore you will have to enable
the viewing of hidden file and folders. (Just open my documents >
tools > folder options > view > tick show hidden files and folders and
click apply > the click apply to all folders.

thanks Ian, i have checked there, done many searches, and i reckon
there is no key kept on the hdd.

I reckon that when they ask for the key early during installation,
they check it, then somehow encrypt it? into another file,

I put the key on a floppy, the install briefly looked at the floppy
then continued. i think it may have been encrypted at that point??

I installed the very latest version 5 from the download site.

I am not a programmer, so dont know much about encryption etc.

maybe somebody else with the lates version can check?

Better keep the key in a safe place in case i have to reinstall.

any ideas anybody?

No they don't. This is where it is. The key file is encrypted as it is
to avoid you tampering with it. You should contact kaspersky lab for
the key file. You just confirm your creditcard details or other
personal info with them and they will resend it to you. No problem
there.

Ian, in my xp sp2 installation, i have this path:


c:/documents and settings/all users/application data/kaspersky

Anti-Virus personal/5.0/

In there we have these folders:

Backup/Bases/Quarantine/Reports/Updater reserved files/Updater

update files

then sfdb.dat and setup.log files sitting by themselves outside the
folders

there is not actual key in my installation anywhere there, i am
showing hidden/folders

I have a copy of my key on floppy etc as backup,.

If you have personal version 5 with latest everything, can you have a
look?

I have carefully checked every folder under the kaspersky banner,
still nothing

When i click on license keys under "support' in the program, it shows
up as my purchased key number.

Is anybody elsse using my version?
