Kaspersky Personal Pro: Registration Question

For the past few weeks I have been using the trial version of the
program. I purchased it the other day. Am I correct that Kaspersky no
longer supplies a key to apply to the trial version to convert it into
a registered version? They instead have you download another copy from
another server which, I assume, has all the registration information
inside it?

I'm asking because it seems their support still doesn't seem to answer
even simple questions such as this. That's the reason I dumped them
more than a year ago, but unfortunately all the other AV programs I
tried sucked - in my estimation, and that's the reason I'm back with
Kaspersky.

Thanks

Yes, the registration information is inside your downloaded exe file
(I'm using KAV Personal, but I assume there's no difference between the
two versions in this respect). I unpacked the exe with Total Commander
and found the key file inside. You can unpack your exe and save the key.

Thanks for answering.

I don't know why they just don't send the keyfile instead of making
it sound as if I had to download the whole program again. With a
slow dialup, it ain't no fun downloading 30MB files.

It's been four days since I sent my simple question on this matter to
Kaspersky support. I still have not heard from them. As I said before,
I used to use their product for some years but quit because of the
utter lack of support. I guess they haven't changed. The same thing is
going to happen to them which happened to Central Command, the outfit
whom some years back used to be the distributor for Kaspersky in the
USA. No matter how good the product, you can only shaft people on
support for so long before it catches up with the company.

Whatever...

Thanks again for answering.

I don't like the procedure, either. In fact, you do have to download the
whole program again, otherwise you won't be able to get hold of your
registration key. You can either make a fresh installation (in which
case the registration info will be applied automatically) or unpack the
exe and then import the key from within your trial version. I would feel
uncomfortably not having my keyfile saved somewhere, should I need it
later.

I've heard a similar story from a friend of mine. They did eventually
answer his simple question, but let him wait quite a few days.

You're welcome.

Are you using the Swiss company?
I used to have better luck with them, then the Russian company.

I had forgotten about the Swiss outfit.

They alienated me some years back when they started playing
registration games with updates, etc. I'm really sorry I had to go back
with Kaspersky. It has been a week now and still no email from their
support. It seems they haven't changed from the time I dumped them over
a year ago. They are the worst company I have ever dealt with in regard
to support. This from a guy who has used them almost from their
beginning.

Oh, well, I'll stick with them as long as the damn program doesn't blow
up on me. I'll be damned if I'll ever try to contact their support
again. If the worst happens, I'll just have to pop again with dough for
a lesser quality AV product. Preferably, one which answers support
email.

I hope the arrogant bastards go broke.
