Kaspersky and spyware protection

Today I downloaded 30 day trial of Kaspersky internet security suite
which claims to have spyware protection as part of the package. Well,
I can see that it has realtime spy protection running, but there is no
seperate spyware scan engine. Only the virus scan.

Is this sufficient spyware protection, or should I also look into
getting a stand alone spyware program in addition?. If having KIS is
sufficient then thats fine because I really like how fast my pc is
running (compared to CA I had last 3 weeks). I would prefer it If I
can avoid creating lag because of overkill protection, but if KIS
leaves me vunerable to spyware.............?

If it would be a good idea to get addtional spyware defense, could
someone recommend an efficient low resource spyware program?. I'm
pretty well familiar on what most prefer to use on the "freeware"
side of the fence (and that usualy means using multiple apps for
most)

I'm leaning towards spyware doctor right now just from reading search
results, but it would be great to get some feedback on what the better

Forget about paid versions, free AV/A-S ware are just as efficient and
reliable!

I am on dial-up connection. The below mentioned free-ware applications are

I use SuperAntispyware and am very happy. It's quite light on resources.

Charryl Chessman jr.'s message is true. The Free version of Kaspersky will do quite fine
supplemented with the other utilities noted.

I have a very similar computer-my kids and myself are on line quite a
bit...my older computer got messed up by spyware-on this new one(which is
like yours) the guy I bought it from had Webroot spyware-it cost about $25 a
year--never had any spyware problems--I have renewed it once and have it on
my laptop too. quality product with daily updates.

I am currently using KIS 6.0.2.621 with SAS real-time enabled. I have
also used Ewido/AVG AS real-time with KIS/KAV 6 with no problems. Both
offer a trial period, and then revert to freeware without a license.

Some people have reported problems with Spyware Doctor, particularly the
latest version, and KAV/KIS 6. Check out the KL Users Forum.

No thanks. I've already been down the freeware road and I "was" using
active virus sheild, windows defender, and comodo firewall. That
particular trio is the most freeware I deem as praticle for security
(as far as freeware goes)

My reasoning behind this?

Well, after my initial 90 day trial was up that came with my pc I
ventured into the world of freeware. There are many fine freeware
security products out there and I was running one of the best rated
free AV's, 3 of the best rated spyware apps, sandboxie, and thats
about all I remember. All were highly recommended in
alt.comp.freeware. I don't know if I got a virus or if
it was one or more of the programs, but my pc became so currupt I had
to re-format my HD and start all over.

The first thing I noticed after doing the recovery was how amazingly
fast my pc now was WITHOUT ALL THAT CRAP ON MY BACK DRAGGING ME DOWN.
I had actually forgotten how fast my pc was in the beginning of it all
because I had just gotten used to it.

I was on 1.5 meg DSL moving at the speed of dial up.

One of the main reasons I run security software is to keep my pc clean
from malware that creates unwanted additional procceses running in the
background that will slow down my pc's performance.

WHAT IS THE POINT IN ME RUNNING A DOZEN PROGRAMS THAT SLOWS ME DOWN
ALMOST (if not more) THAN THE MALWARE WOULD???

I feel the same way about free programs...
I do use an unwanted file remover..works great-is free by toni arts easy
cleaner...I use a virus deal that was also on my computer It is e scan for
windows-- cost about $25 a year...finds stuff once in a while...but the most
important program is that webroot
spyware program--it finds about 10 traces everyday...when the net gets
slow-I run that program and it usually helps--- the computer is on the net
10hrs a day...

Comodo Firewall is Illusion Ware (evidently marketing is doing its job :) )

Ginkgo biloba can be used as memory enhancer.
All were highly recommended in

If you don't know consult the friendly experts in particularized ng's or
fora.

You are jumping to conclusions without any bases.
None of the (mentioned) software applications will slow down your pc!

Well, choose wisely, hang around in specialized newsgroups, ask questions
and don't SHOUT!

It seems that you are still on a (very) steep learning curve with respect to
various software applications - be patient :)

Thanks again. I'm seriously looking into webroot. It looks pretty good
from what I've read so far. I don't see a free trial on the site just
a free scan, but I'm sure if I do a quick search I can find a 30day
trial for it somewhere.:-). If it's as lite as you say, I'll probably
keep it.

I'm really liking KIS so far. It has excellent real time behavior
detection and website scanning. The interface is almost identical to
AVS but It does so much more than the AVS free version and still feels
just as lite on resources. I'll still check out nod32 first before I
commit.

My experience with Webroot is just the opposite. Bogged my system down to
a crawl. I unloaded all the heavy stuff and now use AOL AVS (essentially
free version of KAV), BoClean, Winpatrol (along with light firewall). All
the bases are covered without bogging down your system. KIS is good but a
little spendy for my taste. I still have a license for NOD32 but its
detection rates have gone downhill IMO. KAV (and AVS) are better and do a
much better job of cleaning if you ever do get infected.

Thanks for the info bullseye. I'll check out those apps and I will
most definatly run a trial version first before paying for "any"
spyware program (including webroot) just for that reason.

I'll probably stay with KIS and If I ever have to go back to freeware
security I would definatly use AOL AVS again. It's by far lighter than
the other freeware AV's I tried and I never had one problem with it
conflicting or causing problems with other apps.
