When I open K 6 the window has a red warning sign saying "some protection
components failed to start" & I'v been ubable to find what those components
are.Ran a full scan & it said "all threats have been treated.Just downloaded
& installed the latest updates. Is the computer at risk & do I need to
install AVG free or is it ok just to keep running K 6 ?
Thanks for info

No, you must fix KAV.

1) What version of KAV?
2) PDM?
3) KIS?
4) Which PFW are you using?
5) What other real-time security apps are you using?
6) Have you tried a re-install? If you have update modules checked,
make sure that you are using the latest, greatest version of KAV/KIS.

Look for the answer to your question here:

If you would like to post your question in the KL forum, you must
register first (there is no charge). Or look for a similar post, it
has happened to others. Usually updating to/re-installing the latest
version will solve your type of problem.

Read this thread and do a search on this same forum for other threads
that deal with " some protection components failed to start".

Essentially, the recommendation is to d/l the latest version, 6.0.0.303.
Uninstall your current version, reboot and delete the KAV folder from
the previous installation. Now, install the latest version and update
signature files and any components. Before you reboot go into the
settings for update and uncheck the boxes for updating program
components and network drivers. Reboot and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the info.It's fixed.
