I bought a pc laptop last fall as a second computer to our Macintosh.
While I don't use it as my main computer, I am getting a bit concerned
if it does crash and need to be rebuilt. At first it wouldn't have been
any big deal, but as I use it more, install software, and customize it
it would be a disaster if had to start from scratch. From what I've
been able to find it looks like Kanguru's PC Clone (software/hard drive
kit) and Acronis' TrueImage are the best choices for creating a clone
or backup of the entire drive. Is anyone able to offer an opinion on
one over the other?

I appreciate any advice anyone can offer.

Thanks,
Larry

I don't know whether it's a virtue or a vice in me, but regularly
rereading favorite books has always been one of the quasi-
religious ceremonies with which I occupy my life.

I've never heard of kanguru, but Acronis True Image works very well. -Dave

I am able to offer a poor opinion of TrueImage. I used TrueImage 9.1 to
do exactly what the OP wants to do, and I've spent the last 30 hours
digging myself out of the mess I got into with TrueImage. When I
complained, folks told me that I should have read the Acronis forums
before using it. Were they ever right! So please read the forum before
using this piece of [fill in the blank]:

Caution: if you do clone a disk, you will almost certainly be unable to
swap that disk in and boot it under XP. It's all about Windows

If the disk was cloned properly there should be absolutely no windows
activation issues. Sounds like its all about operator error or a bad
program. I've cloned a drive to a larger one under windows and never
been bothered by doing that by itself. You have to make a few other
changes at the same time in order to have a windows activation issue.>
