I've just bought and assembled a K8VT800 with an Athlon 64 3000+ but
upon powering up, the power comes on, as does the hard disk light but
thats how it stays, and the hard disk light stays on.

It doesnt produce any beeps from the BIOS, it just spins the fans of the
graphics card, the power supply and the hard disks but doesn't do
anything else.

I've tried various ribbon cables and two graphics cards but it doesn't
make any difference.

I've got the hard disks connected to IDE1 and the CDROM connected to IDE2.

Anyone know what the problem might be?

Radeon 9700 Pro
512mb DDR PC2100
Soundblaster Audigy
56k modem
80gb primary hard disk
8gb secondary hard disk
Samsung SM-352 CDROM

Thanks for any help, I hope to god I don't have to send it all back!

When the hard drive light or floppy light stays on , it is almost always the
data cable going to it is reversed.
Reverse the data cable to the hard drive or possiably the cd drive. Do not
reverse the power cable, The larger data cable being plugged in backwards
will not harm the computer,, but a power cable reversed will.

I managed to fix the problem.
It was a 12V cable that led from the power supply into the motherboard
as well as the normal power cable. I didnt have one on the power
supply that I was using so I had to change it. Plugged that in and
all was well.
