Hi all,

I am trying to build my own custom pc off of the asus k8v-x board.
Right now I have put it together with a hodgepodge of parts I have
around and have been having problems if you look at my other thread.

http://www.howtofixcomputers.com/bb/ftopic134515.html

I have no intention of leaving it with the crap I have on it now (if I
can ever get it to work that is) and have already seen all the
recommendations on the asus website.

It would be nice to get some recommendations for things to put with
it, mem, processor, video, and so on, hopefully from someone that has
a machine built off it oh has built one with it.

Thanks in advance

This applies universally:
1. What problem are you experiencing other than issues with BIOS flashing.
2. Please give a full list of h/w - make model, version etc when posting
3. READ THE MANUAL.
4. With my A8N, the ezflash is accessed bypressing ALT-F2 when you would
press DEL to enter the BIOS. Ezflash expects a flopp (or CD) in the drive
with a correctly named bios file and will flash automatically. Don't play
with it! Don't try it until you have read the manual.
5. DO NOT flash the BIOS when you don't need to. What makes you think you
need to?
6. Following 5, do not flash sequentially as it adds risk of a failed flash
==> stuffed mobo until you get a new BIOS chip.
7. Always read the read me files for BIOS flashing and heck the asus web
site drivers section for comments about 'this needs BIOS x' or 'Do not put
BIOS Y in wihtout upgrading Driver Z to B first...' style comments.
8. Ignore DaveW as 9 times out of 10 he's wrong and never explains or gives
evidence for his short conclusive statements.

Whatever you do, follow static precautions religiously, run memtes86 as Paul
has suggested - follow Paul's adivice he is invariably spot on. Check Temps
and voltages in the bios. (Where? read the manual).

It seems to me you are roaring to go, you want to upgrade the bios etc, but
haven't read the manual. I've built dozens of different types of systems and
I always RTFM & research for issues others may have. I like to know what is
where & check things - it does help :)

Google is your friend.

If you supply the info requested people will be able to answer questions
much more accurately and correctly without guessing.

HTH and keep us posted.

I think the BIOS is ok but the OP hasn't set up the BIOS properly in the
first place. Read the bloody manual.
