K8V SE Deluxe and SATA

I just got new SATA drive and I want to connect it to the VIA SATA1
connection. I also have my old PATA drive on the VIA PATA connector.
Because my SATA drive is faster, I would like to make it my primary drive
(C) and make the older PATA drive the secondary drive (D) for data.
However, I can't get the motherboard to allow me to make the SATA drive the
Primary (C) drive. It defaults back to making the older PATA as the C
drive. Anyone know how to do this? I've tried setting the Boot BIOS
settings, but since they're both running off the VIA controller (SATA and
PATA), I don't seem to be able to get them to switch.

I have the same board, but I'm not using any PATA drives.
On other boards I've had to remove the PATA drive then
Install XP on the SATA drives and reinstall the PATA
drive.

Check to make sure in bios that the SATA controler is enabled. I forget where
in the bios it is but hunt around enough and you should find it. Also be aware
you will need SATA drivers on a floppy for when you load Windows since it
doesnt have native support. Once the controler is enabled you select the drive
in your boot options for first boot device.

nt based systems write the hd assignment to the boot sector of the drive so
you can only remove it by either booting up after the new drive has been
assigned. in other words don't connect the pata till youv'e installed to the
sata, or by running the fdisk command from a dos disk,"fdisk /mbr", (move
boot record).
