K8V Deluxe Shutting of HD During bootup

Has anyone had the problem with their IDE hard drive shutting off after the
computer posts then powers back on and then loads the OS? I emailed tech
support and they told me to try different cables and things but it doesn't
work. It does this to any drive I use on the Pri IDE controller. I think I
might end up calling them because I don't think it is good on the drive, or
I might move it to the secondary controller but would like to keep it on the
primary. I flashed to the latest BIOS hoping it would fix the problem but
it didn't. If anyone else had this problem and fixed please let me know
how.

Thanks

Ryan

Yes, I do. You can quite clearly hear it switch on just before boot.

Admitedly I'd rather have it running all the time, but then I usually
don't switch off anyway.

I don't know, but this has been mentioned on this group before. The only
useful suggestion made was that it might be an inadequate power supply.
I'm not convinced that is the case for me as it is running on an Enermax
431W PSU. Still it might be something to consider.

Its not a power related issue, or drive. i tried multiple, quality PS
(antec, enermax, etc) and multiple brands of IDE drives. it does it
everytime. I ended up switching to a SATA drive to avoid the annoyance

That's useful to know. To be honest I think it is the way the power
management is set up in the BIOS. For some reason it was decided it would
be a good idea to put the drive into sleep mode during POST. Seems
totally daft to me.

I know. I wish the post a BIOS fix to this.. It drives me nuts and is
totally unecessary

The "fix" is to disable APM Power Management. It stops the HD from
stopping, starting and appears to have no other effects.
