Maybe it's a stupid question, but I'm just curious.
I set-up my Athlon 64 system using the K8V Deluxe and everything is working
great. However, I never get the reassuring beep after POST. I can hear the
speech reporter et al but no beeps. Is this normal?
Thanks.

Thanks for the info guys.

Anyway, I did try the new beta BIOS and it does enable Cool n'Quiet after
you install the AMD driver (and make sure to enable Minimal Power Management
in Windows control panel). While browsing and doing regular stuff the CPU
speeds drops to 800MHz and voltage down to about 1.3V, it also runs about 4
to 5 Centigrade lower than at max speed and idle. If I start a game or other
CPU intensive app it jumps back to 2000MHz. Pretty cool.

Congratulations on your success. Could you(or anyone) post system specs?
I'm wanting a K8V Deluxe with two Raptors in raid 0 and third solo drive on
the PATA for storage. I was considering Corsair 3200LL memory and a Radeon
9800XT. Appreciate any input or info, issues, etc.
Thanks

Funny you say that. I have a RAID0 Raptor array and Radeon 9800XT. No
problems whatsoever. I use the RAID0 array as my secondary drive. My boot
drive is a SCSI CheetahX15 on Adaptec 29160 card. I use the PATA primary
channel for my CD-RW and DVD-ROM drives. I have no other IDE drives.
However, with the above configuration the performance is excellent and the
VIA built-in RAID controller is as fast as the ICH5R Intel RAID controller I
had on my IC7-G. Setting up the RAID array was a snap and the drives were
recognized correctly. I just created an array and installed the Windows
drivers for it. No problems.

As for memory, I have OCZ PC3500 memory, 2x 512MB sticks. CL is set to 2 and
system is rock solid. No reboots, crashes or other funny stuff. It works
great and I am pleasantly surprised by how smoothly this all went together.
My previous VIA experience was a disaster and I was a little hesitant (back
in P3 days). I also used Intel stuff exclusively for the past 10 years or
so, so the Athlon switch was a major change for me. Overall though I'm very
happy. The system runs cool, it runs fast and is stable.

Thanks very much. I really appreciate this information and you taking the
time to help. SCSI ...OK. Sounds interesting. Hmmm.

Betelgeuse,

i use 2 x 512 Kingston PC3500 CAS 2 memory, what are your memory settings ?
and what's your performance mode ? (listed in jumperfree configuration). Me
running on stock speed, tried turbo1 and turbo2 settings (dunno what else
the turbos does except clocking it at 2050 mHz, maybe some more aggressive
mem timings), but had some problems copying large files with that setting
(Delayed write errors).

I'm not sure what the memory settings are, but most are set to Auto except
for CAS which I set to 2 from the 2.5 it was set to by Auto. Anyway, CPU-Z
reports CASL at 2, RCD 4, RASP 4, Tras 8, Trc 12 and DRAM Idle Timer 16.
I have it set-up for Standard performance, I tried all the Turbo modes and
they appeared stable. However, I didn't do any extensive testing.
