K8V and Linux?

My computer shop is offering the KV8-SE Deluxe.

I'd like to run Linux, probably Suse 8.1 (until I get a new version)
then 9.0 or whatever Suse puts out in the future. I may experiment with
other distros too. In other words, Linux!

Any experiences with this mobo?

My research so far indicates that it should be Ok, with the only hangups
being semi-beta level drivers for the SATA.

Comments appreciated.

Good day!

Good day!
I got Suse 9.0 64 bit and it works, on the K8V Deluxe which I have.
Had some problems with wireless Lan but it is my lack of knowledge to
configure it, as Yast recognized the card. I downloaded 9.0 and
installed from my hard drive. Best I can tell everything works.
With the SATA again when booting it is recognized but I have not yet
configured it to work, my inexperince.
I am a recent convert to Linux, after an early bad experince with
mandrake. I still have not switched over completly from windoze.
I am quite happy with the board I got, and its performance.
Just wish I could get buy a decent book on SuSe that is writen for a
newbie. Can not find one.
Hope this was of some help

Good day!

Hi,

I've bought a K8V SE Deluxe this week, and installed on it Linux
Slakware 9.1, kernel 2.6.4.
Everything runs fine for the moment, except one strange thing about the
Yukon/Marvel LAN onboard adapter, I always have error message from the
kernel saying there is a VPD error... (it looks like a checksum error on
the VPD memory).

The configuration is : K8V SE mobo, AMD 64 3000+, 512Mb PC3200 Samsung,
graphic NVidia FX5200 (I don't play at all), Seagate 80Gb PATA hard drive.
With the last kernel, the VIA SATA is shown during the boot, so I
suppose it works fine.

Regards,

Marc.
