Hi

I have a K8S-MX with an Athlon 64 3000+, 2 x Kingston KVR400X64C3A/512
running Windows XP Home SP2 from a IDE harddisk. After a while everything
freezes with the display showing the last screen slightly disturbed. Only a
power reset can bring it back to life.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

It just occurred to me, that your Northbridge could be overheating.
Sometimes, when heatsinks are placed on the chipset, they
forget to put thermal compound underneath the heatsink, and there
is actually a gap between heatsink and chip. The chip overheats
as a result. (Note that, if the heatsink is making bad contact,
it would be cold to the touch, not hot. It should be running warm,
due to the integrated graphics core.)

You may be able to inspect it from the side, if the motherboard
is removed from the case. I cannot tell from the picture of the
motherboard, whether you can see under the heatsink or not.
