I have a need to view old email and cannot find it. I checked into the.pst
files under the particular user and it's not there. These emails are at least
2 years old.

Does outlook automatically delete messages that arent saved?

Hi Diane,

Not sure what you mean by the indexer. I upgraded to office 2007 to use
excel. Recently, the office needed to look for 2 year old emails. Boss says
he never deleted them. When I opened outlook, nothing was there. I went into
the drive and looked for .pst files under his user name and there emails
there but not the ones we want. I have no idea what settings he used for the
03 outlook. Also, not sure if he was using express or not. Help!

They would only be deleted if you use autoarchive.

Is the indexer done running?

Run a search on the PC to include hidden files for *.pst, what is the
result, and name/size of any files found?

I thought of that too. I dont know where to enable the search for hidden
files and folders. The pst's I did find were about 5000kb and had some of the
old emails but not the ones in question.

See http://www.outlook-tips.net/beginner/filepath.htm for file locations.

The indexer is the desktop search used by outlook 2007 - it can't find
anything (or takes forever) until the messages are indexed.

Either in COntrol Panel's Folder Options or in the search options.
