just put a 40 ghz hd in then a yamaha burner

When i put these two pieces of hardware in my computer. my a:/ crapped out. No matter what drivers or 3.5 foppy, I put in it. It either says (disk needs formating) or (place a disk in drive)The new hardware installed was (Yamaha CD burner and the anotheran additional 40 Ghz hard drive. No mater what I do it wont work. My CD ROM and Burner work fine the other hard drives works fine. even partitioned. I have also tried using another a:/ drive in the system and they both do the same thing.

Is it a problem with the new 40 ghz hard drive I put in wit the 16 ghz. They are still both operational. or is it possible it's the Yamaha cd burner/rom. that will not work together. I've even change all cables to no avail
I am on a cable modem and I have no probs with anything else, I just can't do anything with my a:/ drive
Any help wold be great

Did you check in Device Manager, Bios, does it show up in MyComputer?
