Just ordered my Hitachi DESKSTAR 7K250 VANCOUVER III, 120GB, 7200rpm, 8mb cache, S/ATA 150, 80gb/pla

You need rubber grommits at the ready - mine vibrates like a, um, vibrator.
 
So hows the speed, you notice the difference from your last drive ??
worth it ?

I'am upgrading from a Seagate Baraccuda IV, nice drive o probs and
quiet :), just need more space sick of running out, backing stuff up,
coping stuff arround GRRRRRRRRRR.

120 gigs should fix that for a while.

Well I have'nt run any benchmarks, and the 7K250 was added as a second drive
so I still boot from my Maxtor plus 8, but games that were on C: and now are
on the new D: do load much quicker, so yes, very happy with it.
 
Do some bechmarks HDtach 3.00 i thinks the latest 2.51 ? and let me
know what the results are :) or you like that is, got the time, can be
bothered :)

the Maxtor Maxline Plus II (250GB SATA) does even faster on some
benchmarks, so not the clear winner.

the Maxtor Maxline III does an even better job at winning some
benchmarks over, so even harder to say which is the better drive.

Anyways, with 120GB HDs at <$40 (www.fatwallet.com/forums/ -> hot
deals), anyone can also simply RAID four of these 7200rpm 120GB cheapies
at the same price as the Hitachi, and come out with a system that's far
faster than the single HD alone.....
 
Each drive might be 1% or faster.slower ect, all i know 120gig Hitachi
drive IS FAST, don't give a !&@&@&@&!&ing if the Maxtor is faster its
not by much.
