Just Installed: What Network Resource it is Looking For?

I have just installed Windows 2000 Server and SP4 on an old server
which had been completely reformatted. (SP2 in the same box as Windows
2000 wouldn't install, claiming to be a different version: what's that
about, when it's in the same box? But downloaded SP4 installed OK.)

Then I get the screen about configuring it, and I want it to be the
only server on a new domain I am creating. It isn't connected to
anything else yet. It's only going to be visible locally, so I call it
<organisationname>SERVER and .local.

But this fails, telling me the network resource is not available? What
network resource could this be referring to?

I am completely at a dead end with this. I want to make it the only
server, and domain controller, on a domain which won't exist until I
configure this server, but it's looking for something on a network.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

IIRC you must have a functioning and connected network interface to make it
a DC.

Ah, if that's all it is ... I was hesitating to plug it into anything
before everything I want to plug it into has been suitably disinfected.
Would just a hub/switch do, with no other PCs attached?

Otherwise I need a suitably scrubbed PC before I can proceed.

Or don't do the promo till you have applied.

Thanks. I'd already installed SP4, but I wouldn't have found those
updates without first connecting it to the Internet, which I'd rather
not do too soon. I'll download these and transport them to the server
by disk/CD.

Yepper, good move.

Yep. That would work fine. Annoying, innit?
