Just installed OUTLOOK, "unable to open default email folder"?

I am experiencing the same difficulty. I did a full
install/uninstall/reinstall trying to clean it up, but it hasn't worked.

As soon as I start Outlook 2002, I get an error box that says "Unable to
open your default email folders. Could not open the item. Try again." I
click OK (the only choice) and get a second error box: "Would you like to
open your default File System folder instead?" I get two choices with this
box: Yes or No. No closes Outlook 2002 completely. So, I chose Yes. It
subsequently uses Outlook 2002 to open My Computer and within a few seconds I
get another error box: "Unable to start processing services. Could not open
the item. Try again." I click OK (the only choice).

To this point, I have not had any options in my actions. Anyway, I want to
set-up a new email account and stop looking at My Computer, right? So I use
the Help feature and it tels me to go to the Tools menu and select Email
Accounts (much like another user here suggested). I go to the Tools menu and
there is no selection for Email Accounts. I expand the menu, there is not
even a dimmed-out Email Accounts to be selected. Also, the Options selection
is present but is dimmed-out so I can not chose it (another way of setting up
an email account).

Effectively, from install to this point I have been presented with no
options by the program and it is completely useless.

Vince, you got my foot in the door.

By going through the Control Panel I was able to give Outlook AN email
account to look at...so it doesn't send me to My Computer anymore. Now I
have a new problem:

I am attempting to integrate 3 email accounts into Outlook. One is an IMAP
account and I succeded in getting Outlook to recognize it and download/copy
the messages. I can read the emails and sort them into folders, but I can
not use Outlook to respond to them or send an email out. Anytime I click
Reply or New Mail Message I get an error message "Could not open the item.
Try again."

The second is a Hotmail account...I even followed the Microsoft
instructions, but it will NOT download/copy the messages to Outlook nor will
it send email out...same error as above.

The third account is probably the most frustrating because it is an Outlook
Web Access account "Provided by Microsoft Exchange Server 2003." I would
believe this would be easy to configure, seeing as how ITS THE SAME
PROGRAM!!! But I can find no way of linking the online Outlook account with
the desktop Outlook.
