Hi All,

I was here a few weeks ago, had some issues with a corrupted
registry and you guys helpme me right through it.

Now I have this issue..

Tonight, while online, I was prompted to "update" my version of
Windows Xp to Service Pack 3.

It downloaded in the background and did the install. When it was
done with the intsall my machine had to be rebooted, which it did

So far so good.

I've had (what I considered) a minor issue with the reinstall. It
prompted me for a user name and password as if others were sharing
this computer with me, which is not the case, just me alone. Usually
when I start the computer and the initial XP login screen comes up, I
have been able to just leave it blank in both the user field and
password field and the computer would go right into XP. It was a
minor thing at best and I figured I would fix it on a rainy day.
However, after installing SP3, it ask for an actual password. I don't
know what that is, I don't ever recall setting one up.

What can I do, that is, short of doing an entire reinstall again?

Thank you all for your time and for your help.

God Bless You All, and happy holidays

Jamie

Start the computer in Safe mode and log in using the "Administrator"
account. It shouldn't require a password unless you defined one.

Go to Control Panel > User Accounts and remove the password from your
personal account.

Reboot normally.

During one of the service pack installs, you may get a .NET module
installed. This will install a separate ASP.NET user which will
fource the XP to a logon screen. Download and install TweakUI. Then
turn off all Logon accounts that you do not want to show up.
