Just got my company server 2000 computer

Ok guys, I hope you can direct me to where I need to look for information.
Now as long as I can remember to boot the server I need to press F8 to boot
up using "safe mode(with directory services)". Might there be a reason why I
need to do this?

In the end I want to use this as my home server using my wireless router
hooked up to it. I have a laptop that I'm using now and do usually. How do I
connect them in sequesnce? I want to use the server for what it is a server
and be able to access the server drive with my laptop, plus a external hard
drive that I can hook up to the server.

I was thinking I could just reinstall server 2000 but they couldn't find the
discs, is there anyway of getting them? I might just try ebay, but that
leaves me with needing the key right? There is no sticker on the server. Oh
by the way I should add this is a IBM PC server 325 system.

I know you guys might just say buy a book on servers and learn for myself.
That's ok but not sure where to look. Should I just find a 2000 server book
or are there any better sources?
