Do other people have the same experience I have? Sometimes, as I am
composing a question for this NG, an idea occurs to me that I haven't
tried, and it solves the problem. I wonder what % of questions get self-
answered that way...

Thanks, BTW, for solving my problem. You are truly brilliant.

David

You are right on. Sometimes forming the question gives you clues to the
answer....

For those folks that really think about their question, I'll
bet the percentage is pretty significant.

When I get stuck, I try to explain the difficulties to my
wife (or even my dog, Suzi is very intelligent and an
excellent listener ;-), and, so far, they've got a near
perfect record of provoking a self answer to the question.

Would you get in trouble, Marsh, if your wife read that she was being
just about as helpful as the dog?! :-)
But I agree with the concept, indeed (not the one of talking to a dog
instead of the wife, but self-provoked answer :-)

Cheers,
Pavel

Interesting observation, David.

That's one reason we encourage users of our databases to request support by
email: by the time they have expressed their question, they sometimes solve
it, or at least they are now clear about the question, and so we have a
better chance of answering it.

(Other reasons: email is less intrusive - important when concentrating on
development or meeting with clients - and less expensive for overseas
clients.)
