Jupiter, can't get to safe mode via F8 key

Thanks for the response. However, I can't force Win XP
Pro into safe mode with the F8 key either held down or
tapped at once per second. The Setup Defaults that I
mentioned that were restored had something to do with
bypassing the part of the operating system that lets me
interact at the beginning with F8 or one or two other F
keys. The screen is blank at ignores any F key I try to
get it to respond to. I'll check the manual. If I join
the newsgroup as you suggested will that increase spam?

Alternate:

1. From the Windows Start menu, click Run.

2. In the Open field, type MSCONFIG and click Ok.

3. On the BOOT.INI tab, check /SAFEBOOT.

4. Click Restart when prompted.
 
Contact the manufacturer if the manual is no help.

You do not really join a newsgroup.
If you are referring to my signature line, that is just an easier way
than accessing through the web interface.
