When I first open Windows Mail, the pane which lists the messages in the
Inbox jumps. It expands and contracts and expands and contracts and finally
stops. Anyone else see this odd behavior and any suggestions on what it is
and what I can do to stop it :)

Greetings Vincent -

How does one take a screen shot of a shaking window?
I've had this same issue with every single Vista build and now
with Vista RTM. When I open Windows Mail, or make
any selection in the left window pane, the main body
of Windows Mail shakes left to right several times.
I've tried virtually everything from using MSFT's own
video adapter drivers (NVIDIA) to the latest ones from
NVIDIA's web site. Adjusting the monitor refresh rate
also has no impact. This "shaking" in Windows Mail
is very annoying and it is the only program in Vista that
has this problem.

I have a PNY NVIDIA 6600GT AGP video card installed
and use a Viewsonic VX922 LCD monitor. I did try using
a different monitor but it made no difference.

I bugged this several times during Vista's beta testing,
but the only response from MSFT was "unable to reproduce".

Do you have any troubleshooting suggestions?

BTW, I tried another clean install of Windows Vista
yesterday and this issue still exists.

Hi Vincent,

Carey is right, I can't take a screenshot of a moving window. The site she
points to also discusses it in the same way I would. My video card is
NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 and Vista says it has the most current driver.

Hi Carey,

Thanks for weighing in on this one and at least mentioning that it might be associated with the video card. Mine is a laptop but supposedly 'Windows Vista Capable' :)

I think the issue is that when it starts up it checks for mail and puts the
mail into the inbox and then the junk mail filters take it out again and
that makes it blink or appear to jump.

Try turning off Send and receive at startup and see if that makes any
difference.

I think its totally unrelated to video hardware and has to do with the
design and implementation of the program. It would have made much more
sense if the messages were put into the junk folder directly, as the other
mail rules do.

steve

Hi Steve,

I turned off 'Send and Receive' at startup and it still
jumps................a lot.

Yeah, I just had it turned off also and saw the same thing. What I said
still applies but there is a lot of weird flashing going on.

I would contact the laptop manufacturer or search their Web site for updated
video drivers.

Its not a video card issue. Something is screwing with the message list
window and that's all. It blinks on and off and its not related to the
video card.

At least that's my impression. Its as if the message list window is being
reloaded several times.
