Hi,

I have a PowerPoint presentation that contains a linked
Word document object displayed as an icon. How to your
select and link to the document when in the slide show
mode?

Thank you.

You should be able to launch it by clicking on it while in presentation
mode.

Austin,

Yes there is no problem launching in presentation mode.
Problem is the boss wants presentations displayed in Slide
Show mode. I can right click on the screen, select "end
show" then launch the link. It sounds like you are
telling me that it can not be launched in the Slide Show
mode.

Thanks for your reply.

Slide Show mode is the same as Presentation mode. I also thought that
clicking such a file would open it when in Slide Show/Presentation mode,
but I just tested in PPT 2003, and it doesn't work.

So. You need to create an action setting for the Word document. Or you
can use an animation setting.

For the animation setting, while you're in Normal (edit) mode,
right-click the Word icon, choose custom animation, add effect in the
animation task pane, and select Object Action/Open.

For an action setting, right-click the Word icon, choose Action Setting.
There you want Object Action: Open.

We have a terminology problem here. To most users, presentation mode = slide
show mode.

Let's go with what's on the View menu - are we talking about a problem in View,
Slide Show mode or View, Normal (view Slide)?

Assuming Slide Show, I think you need to:

Rightclick the icon
Choose Action Settings from the popup menu
Click Object Action and pick either Open or Edit (experiment with both to see
which suits you best)

Echo/Steve,

I'm now straight on the terminoloy. Thank you both for
suggesting the action object setting. I have set up the
presentation to open the Word docuemnt with a mouse over
the icon. Works grand.
