Now, I consider the GDI Exploit not to be a virus in the normal sense of the
word, but a way to exploit a security flaw in MS and other software. At
this point, a JPG image itself cannot contain a virus.
But, with so many security holes in MS software, who knows what could
happen? ;-)
You might not consider it a virus, but it is. Here are the virus
totals on the exploit along with the numerous mutations. It's a virus
in every sense of the word.

You can find many other such references as well.
In the past few years, releases of MS software have contained fewer
security bugs than any other software manufacturer, including many
open source solutions. The difference between MS and the other guy is
that MS dedicates a TON of resources to finding bugs before the bad
guys do and fixing them.
MS, as you might imagine, has very detailed statistics on such things.
I'm sure your MVP lead would be willing to point you in the direction
of some data if you're interested.
