JPG file headers lost when unlocking drive....

I locked a drive with the properties, security, allow or deny check when
right clicking on a drive letter.

After the required period of lock time was met I unlocked the drive and
found that all the "headers" were missing off our jpg photo collection. The
files are apparently there as they are taking up space but can no longer be
accessed.

Can anyone help with this? I would really like to have my photos back.

If the files can be repaired, or perhaps a picture viewer that will open
them in this state and allow me to resave them.

TIA (If possible, respond to my email (e-mail address removed))

It sounds like you simply changed permissions on a folder. When you change
them again make sure that you give your user account full control
permissions and that there are no deny permissions for any user/group shown.
Also verify that the permissions you set on the folder/drive have propagated
to the individual files by checking a couple of them in their properties for
security. If not from the parent folder go into security advanced and select
"replace permissions on child objects...". If nothing seems to help try
copying a few of the files to another folder that you have full control
permissions on to see if that helps. If the file names are green in color
[XP Pro only] that means that they have been encrypted and that would be
another issue to try and resolve.

Cheryl,

I don't have an answer to your problem, i think I may be having something
similar happening to me. i am cut and pasting my issue into this post to see
if it can help us both out. How did you lock/unlock the drives in the first
place?? That may help me.

Today I had to do an upgrade of xp home to pro. Nothing worked properly for
the actual upgrade so i ended up having to format and reinstall from scratch.
I had 2 hard drives in my laptop. The second was all my files and data and
such and the primary was the OS. So thinking i would have no issues
accessing my data after the reinstall, I took it out, reinstalled xp pro. I
then put the second drive back into my machine. Now, I can see the folders
that were there before, but I get access denied everytime I try to get into
them. i have created the same user accounts as were on my box when it was
running xp home but to no success. I can create new files and folders, but
can not get to anything that was there before. i have even taken the drive
and put it into another computer I have still running xp home on it thinking
that it may have been an issue with the new OS, but the same problem still
exists. Any ideas of how i can get into my old stuff??
