I believe my DVD is supposed to play disks of pictures. Is there any
particular software one needs to do this sort of thing, or do you just
have to save the files onto a CD?

In my experience you just need to burn them as a data disk.

I just burnt jpg's to the root of the dicc with Nero - player found 'em
without trouble.
Interestingly, even if they're in subfolders - it still finds 'em.
Player is Philips in my case.
