Hi again Paul,
Sorry... Since this is a newsgroup for win2000 I thought you were running Windows
2000. Furthermore, my search of the Microsoft Knowledge Base for a similar article
that applies to Windows XP came up blank. So about all I can do is suggest that you
post in a windowsxp newsgroup. Furthermore, I will suggest that you include
information such as:
- System Information
System Summary: Processor (speed), Total Physical Memory, Available Virtual Memory
Components > Display: Adapter Type, Resolution, Bits/Pixel
For more information about gathering the above System Information, see the following
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article:
KB308549 - Description of Windows XP System Information (Msinfo32.exe) Tool
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=308549
- Visual effects settings since enabling them can significantly hinder performance
(depending on the hardware specifications of your computer). For more information
see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base Article:
KB288186 - HOW TO: Enable or Disable the New Interface Components in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=288186
- Whether or not the files/folder/volume is compressed since NTFS compression can
cause a loss of performance. For more information see the following Microsoft
Knowledge Base Article:
KB307987 - HOW TO: Use File Compression in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=307987
- Whether or not the files are stored locally since files on a Network share can take
a long time to open. And whether or not there are other programs, such as an
antivirus program, that may have the files locked. For more information see the
following Microsoft Knowledge Base Article:
KB814112 - Files on Network Shares Open Slowly or Read-Only or You Receive an
Error Message
