Metadata that is embedded into the file like
comments, EXIF/IPTC info and similar stuff.
Thanks. I thought it might be something like that - like the camera
type, shutter speed etc.
Cheers,
Ian.

Yes but can also include other stuff about the software used to create
the image etc unrelated to digital cameras.

I see....
I'll find out a bit more on this subject.

If you try the excellent image viewer Faststone Image Viewer and watch
a jpg picture in full screen mode you can touch the right border of the
screen and see the exif data, and view and edit the jpeg comments.

http://www.faststone.org/

In fullscreen mode, touch the other screen borders for thumbnails,
editing tools and a main tool bar.
Doubleclick on a picture to change back and forth between full screen
and the main program.

Choose the regular version ot the new beta version on
http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm

The new beta allows drag-n-drop into folders.

Negative maybe is that multiple selection is like on a page with icons,
not in sort order.
Shift-click selects a box of thumbnails, between the earlier selected
and the shiftclick selected, then you can drag-n-drop them all into
another folder.
I takes some getting used to, and I think the author will fix this
soon.

It should select sequentially between the first to the last in the
chosen sort order.

Apart from that the new beta works very well.

Yes, I've seen the EXIF data on the RHS of the FastStone full screen.
I will study it further to see if there is something that maybe you
might not want somebody to know!
FastStone is a great photo editing program. I use it all the time.

EXIF thumbnails are the main cause for concern - take a look at the
article "JPEG EXIF Information Disclosure" at
http://www.securiteam.com/securitynews/5FP011FFPY.html

There are some example images here -
http://blogs.23.nu/disLEXia/stories/5751/

As the author notes, the most worrying is the image where the face of
the subject had been obscured for privacy, but remains in full in the
thumbnail...
