I have a problem that has been posted numerous times on
this newsgroup but I have yet to find a solution.

I have received a number of jpeg images by e-mail (they
had been compressed) But I am unable to view them using
defaul microsoft software - I can however view them using
my camera software although I do not believe there is a
conflict etc.

My daughter has also received these images and is unable
to view them either but has no software other than that
relating to XP

Please help

Thank you

Open one photo with your photo software, don't edit anything, just "Save as"
and change the file name and select jpeg as the file type. Try to open this
new file with XP and see if this works.

JPEG are highly compressed file already, By compressed, do you mean they
were zipped and you had to extract (unzip) them?

Hi

No I'm not with AOL

I tried your idea and this worked although it doesn't
seem a very easy method & certainly will not help on my
daughters PC

Yes you are correct the photos came in a zipped file -
and they were sent from an AOL e-mail address.

Any further help greatly appreciated

Thanks again

Sheldon

Then I suspect the file was corrupted when zipping or unzipping and XP is
more sensitive to it than your photo editing software is. I don't know the
zipping software used by the person sending them to you, or your zipping
software to extract the file. But somewhere something went wrong. With
PKZIP, (if this is what you have) you can try pkfix a file, maybe this will
work.
However there is another way around this, since your photo editing software
can open them. Try another photo editing software available for free here:
http://irfanview.com/
this software can batch convert files. See if it can open one of your file,
if so batch convert all your jpg to tiff and then convert them back to jpg.
This would then work on any computer.
