I have an old joystick with a DB-15 connector. Is there an adaptor that will
allow this to work on a modern computer?

well most new joysticks use drivers and some motherboards come with the
adapter.
No adapter no play.

There are several USB Gameports available on the market.

Many sound cards include a Game Port just for this reason.

I have asked just this question previously on the Microsoft Hardware
newsgroup. I was told by one of the MVPs that a gameport joystick may not
work too well with a faster processor (modern computer?) as it 'loses the
sweet spot' when it comes to communicating with the device. This can cause
problems with either the OS not recognising the connected joystick, to just
not playing properly.

I am not sure how correct this information is, since some motherboards
(although not many) are supplied with a gameport connector and allow faster
processors. I don't know if running it through a sound card is any different
in this respect.

I would be glad to hear what the rest of you think about this as I have an
old MS Sidewinder Precision Pro V1 joystick which I would love to use when I
come to upgrade my rather old machine.
