I have XP Home installed on my desktop with the sp1 upgrade and all
available updates have been done .
I have a D-Link router model DI-704P with the latest firmware update from
May 2003 (V2.73).
(According to D-Link the router is UPnP enabled.)
My desktop is set in a DMZ zone within the DLink configurations.
I have a Zone alarm pro firewall, set to medium for program control.
I have upgraded the Div X to version 9b and removed all Messenger port
forwardings from the network connections.
I have disabled the QoS packet scheduler.
I have run the tuning wizard in messenger.
Net meeting functions perfectly.(voice and video)
Yahoo messenger functions well (voice and video)
File transfer works perfectly in messenger.
I do not have MSN 6 installed (and do not want it either)
I have attempted to connect with 4 different machines without any success,
and have confirmed that these individuals have no similar problems.

Everything worked perfectly until either a Microsoft security update or the
Messenger upgrade to v 4.7.2009 was installed.

What can I do now to get the voice communications re-established in
messenger?

Thank you for your time.

John,

I experienced a similar problem. Do you have an Intel
network card in your system? If so, Windows Update offers
to install a newer version of the Intel network card
driver (dated March 2003) that causes Windows Messenger in
XP to lose video and voice functionality. Merely roll-
back the driver to a previously version and it should work
just fine again.

Greetings John,

I'm not specifically sure what your issue is (you seemed to have covered most of the bases).
You might want to try a System Restore to restore back to before whatever 'update' was
installed to see if that solves the issue. To do so, click Start, then Help & Support, and
then "Undo changes to my computer using System Restore".

Thanks Ron, excuse my ignorance but where will I find the network card type?

Checking in the device manager I see network adapters (cnet pro 200wl) and
in System Devices I find Intel models 8201, 8202 and 82845 controllers, but
no specific mention of a network card.................

Thanks again for you interest in my dilemma!!!

It was worth a try, as it fixed mine (well sort of, it's still very
intermiitent).
