After installing a westell modem "Ethernet" Windows messenger would
not work. I went back to "launchmodem" and enabled remote access and
it worked, but I noticed it said after 20 min. inactivity or reboot
remote access would be disabled. Does remote access need to be enabled
for Win messenger to work? I sat up a new PC for a friend and
installed same modem but his win messenger will not work. No voice ,
typing is fine. I have checked all I know to check. Could you give me
a check list to perform? His mic. works.

Thanks

Greetings Oliver,

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by "LaunchModem", can you be more specific (just explain what
you're seeing).

Also, I'm sure what you mean by "Remote Access", do you mean Remote Assistance or Remote
Desktop?

In terms of a checklist, does your friend also have a router? If so, the router will need to
support Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) in order to establish voice conversations. You can
quickly see if it has UPnP by clicking Start, All Programs, Accessories, Communications,
Network Connections and looking for the "Internet Gateway" heading. If you don't see one,
either the router doesn't have (proper) UPnP support or there is no router (which would be
fine too).

Any other details on his networking configuration would be helpful.
