When Joining a 2000 mixed mode domain The NT workstation
presents a Welcome to the domain message. The error is
when someone tries to log on to this workstation and
domain. We receive the following error; "The system
cannot log you on to this domain because the system
computer account in its primary domain is missing or the
password on the account is in correct.". I used the AD
user and computers tool and the computer account is there.
I also used the DNS tool to ensure that the info was
present - It was. We are also having this problem on
joining a NT member server to the 2000 domain.

You are on the right track. there are a couple of things
that you can do.

The first one would be to reset the computer account.
You do this in the ADUC MMC. Go to the computer account,
right click and select "reset account". The secure
channel to the DC has become corrupted, most probably.

The second thing that you could do would be to install
the Support Tools ( on the WIN2000 Server CD or on the
WIN2000 Service Pack in the Support | Tools folder ) and
use NETDOM to reset the secure channel. Essentially,
this is the same thing as using the ADUC MMC.

The third thing that you would do would be to disjoin the
computer account from the domain, join it to a workgroup
and then join it back to the domain.

Any of the three should do the job for you.

HTH,

Cary

BTW - is it only WINNT 4 clients that have this problem?
