Joining a wireless network

I just moved in a new appartment, and the owner has a wireless internet
connection. I just bought a laptop with Windows 2000, with a wireless card
included in the computer. I want to join to that connection, but I searched
everywhere I could on my computer and did not find a way to connect to it.

Must I install anything ? I looked in the "support" section and, but I only
found very complicated articles that did not seem to concern me. While I'm
not that dumb when it comes to computers, me and the owner are far from being
pro's, so I'm left alone...

I can only have access to Internet once in a while at a friend's place, but
any suggestion might help me greatly. Thank you !

In a nutshell:

Unlike XP, Windows 2000 does not have built-in wireless software, so, as
well as the driver for the wireless card, you'll need to have installed
software from the manufacturer to manage connections.

So: 1) Have a look in Device Manager to see if the card is shown as
"working" and then 2) hunt around for software by the manufacturer. 3)
When it shows you a list of available networks, there will normally be a
"Connect" button, and if the network is properly set up, you'll need to
enter a code of some sort to get on.

Hope that helps!

The problem deepens... I just learned that their wireless router is a Mac
AirPort Express. I see many networks available, but not the one set up by my
owner, so I can't connect to that specific one.

Can't imagine why you can't even see the network - Macs are a closed
book to me. Try uk.comp.sys.mac perhaps? I fear you may not get
anywhere with this unless you can get the base station owner to tweak
the relevant settings.
