Join Workgroup Problem! Only Works On 1 PC & Not The Others!

Hi,
Sorry this will be long. I try to list all the necessary information so
that someone can help me with this problem.
-I have a database that is splitted into a back-end and front-end. I
created a Workgroup file with all the desired permissions and saved it in the
same folder with the back-end (let's call this place
\\server1\shared1\system.mdw). The front-end is saved in another shared
folder on the network for everyone to access.
-From my PC, everything works fine. I joined myself to the shared workgroup
and tested signing on under different usernames and everything works
perfectly as intended.
-Now I go to my co-worker's PC and join her Access to the same Workgroup
file. I then sign on under my username (which belongs to the Admins Group)
and only have Read-Only permission. No matter what username I use to sign
on, I can only view data and nothing else. I even open up "Security -> User
and Group Accounts" and see that my name still belongs to the Admins as
usual. And yet I can only view data!
-I go back to my PC and everything still works fine. I just can't get this
to work on anyone else's PC!
-What have I done wrong???? How come it only works on my PC and nowhere
else? Please help because my co-workers will need to access this front-end
tomorrow and they'll kill me if they only have Read-Only permissions!!!

Creating and joining a workgroup file doesn't in itself secure a database,
there are numerous steps involved. You should read the following very
carefully.

BTW...I hope you didn't actually name your workgroup file system.mdw or use
the default system.mdw to secure your database. In any case, your workgroup
file should be named something other than system.mdw. Naming yours the same
as the default system.mdw, which gets installed with Windows/Access, is sure
to cause confusion/problems later on.

Also, it defeats the purpose in splitting a database when you place the
front end on the server...it should be on the client.
 
Thank you for your input. I tried some of your suggestions but it's still
not working. First off, I renamed the .mdw to be something else rather than
system.mdw. I called it myWorkgroup.mdw.
I also made a local copy of the front-end to my co-worker's C: drive as you
suggested (all tables are linked).
Now I open the file, go to "Security | Workgroup Administrator", then join
her to the myWorkgroup.mdw mentioned above.
I close Access, open it again, sign on with a valid username, and still have
Read-Only permission only, even though this username belongs to a Full-Data
Permissions Group.
What did I miss?

Make sure the database isn't read only...i.e., you copied it from a CD.
Right click on the file, select properties and verify the read only
attribute is not set. If this isn't the issue, you need to carefully read
and follow EVERY step indicated in the FAQs link I provided previously.
 
I found out the problem. Somehow I didn't assign "Write" permission to other
people on the back-end file!!! Dugh...What a mistake!
Anyhow, thanks for your help so much! As far as that MS link you sent me,
I've read it a couple times and to be honest, it's quite confusing. I got an
"Access for Dummies" book and their instructions are much better in terms of
explaining what's going on and which steps to take first etc.

If you're serious about using user-level security then there's no
substitute for reading (many times over in my case) and understanding the
MS article.

There's also a step by step example on my web site, but please understand
the MS article first and, even then, work on a copy of your files.

You should NOT join the workgroup from each workstation -- they should
all remained joined to the default workgroup. Instead, use the
properties of a desktop shortcut to temporarily use a specified
workgroup file for the duration of a single Access session.

<fullPathToAccessEXE> <fullPathToMDBfile> /wrkgrp
<fullPathToWorkgroupFile>
