Has anyone received a job offer directly because their freeware development
or product? I have seen people who release freeware hoping for job offers,
but I'm very much doubtful as to how often this actually results in job
offers. Are job offers resulting from freeware development just an urban
myth?

Thanks

Blake

Where I live, applicants are sometimes asked to show recent work (if
applicable) freeware appliactions, can become handy here.

I think it can help, but is it never a sure thing (what if the employer
tried your program, and -for whatever reason - crashed his/her computer?)

Personally, I see creating freeware stuf as a nice addition to my site, get
some credits ant keep you knowledge of the used language/technique alive.

just my € 0,02

If it crashed his computer then you've written your program poorly. It
is a fact that the PC platform is so variant that it is difficult or
perhaps impossible to write a program that will work 100% of the time on
100% of the systems out there, but if the job being applied for involves
writing for the said platform, then the perspective employer would be
very interested in trying to break the application, to find out just how
good you are. I do the freeware thing cause it's my hobby, if I wanted
to use the apps as a resume, believe me, I would spend a lot more time
on help files and on error checking.

Looks like together we're up to 0,04 now.
