Hello,
bit off topic but I hope I dont get too much abuse.
I am applying for a job in IT, one of the question asked is this:

What is your understanding and awareness of legislation and issues affecting
IT?

Can anybody give some ideas of what might be sensible to write? I am a bit
stuck.

Many thanks

The content of the question sounds more like you are in school and this is a homework
assignment

No employer is going to ask about "awareness of legislation". Additionally this is an
International news group and legislation in the UK will be different from other countries.

For Multi-Posting this question, cheeting on your assignment and for choosing the correct
target audience... you don't belong in IT.

If you don't know the answer, since it appears that they expect you to
already be aware of the legalities, it would appear that you're not the
person for the job if you can't find the answer on your own.

Put down "none" since you don't have awareness because you don't know how to
answer the question.

Or put down "I do what management tells me to do since my job depends on me
performing the tasks to which I am assigned. I investigate externally
dependent issues based on what tasks I am performing at the time. Ain't the
web great for looking up information and doing research."

You certainly don't have the qualifications for the job.

Since it's for a job (you said) tell the truth; you aren't aware of it yet.
Anything else you say is going to be discovered quickly and will likely get
you fired before your probation period ends.
Even if someone were inclined to do your homework for you here, it can't
be done because you're posted absolutely no information about the context of
the question.

If this is an upcoming job interview, how do you know what questions are
going to be asked? What will you do when you get to the psyche part?
When I was in R&D mgmt, I used to ask applicants what their proudest
achievement to date was, followed by what was their latest failure? Since
design is based on failure, anyone that said they never failed or it was x
years ago, you know was lying and indicated more questions needed to be
asked of this person. Unless he was too obviously a truck driver; then you
just say thanks and end it all.

HTH,

Twayne`

| What a silly question. Maybe you should read my post again. I said I was
| applying for a job. An online application form. Not going for an interview.

Never seen a IT job pose such a query about "awareness of legislation" in all my years.
Prospective employers ask technical questions directly correlating to the postion they are
trying to fill. If they did they would be very specific such as mentioning the
Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) act.

I again propose that you are not being forthright and this is a school homework
assignment.

-----Did not ask anybody to give me the answer and post it here so I can
play with my balls waiting. I merely asked for ideas.

"because you're posted absolutely no information about the context of the

-----Context?? This was question number 8 of an application form. No more no
less.
(What is your understanding and awareness of legislation and
issues affecting IT?)
Anything else you say is going to be discovered quickly

-----I am not plotting to blow up the company FFS

Anyway you really got to work on your grammar. If you need to have a go at
me do it properly......

Well there you go. First time for you. Here in the UK. A position for IT
officer for the local council. If I was a student I would just copy and
paste whatever is on the net. I thought I would get advice here, did not
ask to elaborate and write the an essay for me

This is Usenet. It is akin to spoken communication, it is not formal, and grammar plays
backset to the actual content.

That as long as you don't.. due things that r 2 stupid u no wut i mean ?

This is an internatuional news groups whose only requirement is you keep On Topic and
converse in the English language.

An IT question pertaining UK Legislation should be posed in a UK News Group that discusses
Information Technology.
