Melissa

I am trying to log onto a site.

It tells me if I am only getting up a box with a cross
then I need to go to Tool -> Internet Option -> Advanced
and make sure that the JIT option is active.

BUT. . . I don't have this option. Can someone please
tell me how to get it.

Thanks
Melissa

What site? Is it a Secure Site? What "it" is telling you this? Post the
complete error.

Copy/paste the following line into an IE Addressbar, click on GO, then

;SP2; - this is what came up when I posted the line into
my browser.

The site I am trying to access is a bank site. Once I
type my log in I just get a screen up witha cross in the
top corner. From there help section:

16. Upon login, I have a white screen with the header and
a red cross on the top left hand corner?

The white screen issue may arise with Internet Explorer
because there has been a problem with one of the
following system requirements. Just follow the simple
instructions outlined below.

(a) Check the "JIT" is enabled - for Windows

Visit the Internet Browser's Tools menu and
select "Internet Options"
Select the Advanced tab.
Scroll down to the Microsoft VM point and ensure the box
next to JIT Compiler for Virtual Machine enabled has been
ticked.
Press OK
If the box was not ticked, you will then need to restart
your Operating System.
Logon to Business Banking Online
If white screen still occurs, please follow the steps
outlined below.
(b) Download Microsoft Virtual Machine (Microsoft VM) -
for Windows

Please note: : To download and open this file you are
required to have a program that can open Zip files (i.e.
WinZip). If you do not have WinZip, you may download it
from http://www.winzip.com/downau81.cgi?winzip81.exe. If
you are using Windows XP you do not require WinZip.

Download Microsoft VM for your browser(zip, 4.9mb).
Download the file named "msjvm.zip" to your desktop.
Once the file download is complete, using your Zip file
program (i.e. WinZip) extract the zip file by double
clicking on "msjvm.zip" and extracting it to your
desktop.
Close down your browser.
Open folder named "msjvm" on your desktop. Double click
on the file "msjavx86.exe" to perform an install.
Follow the installation prompts.
Once the download process is completed you will be
prompted to restart your computer. Once this is done,
connect to the Internet and logon to Business Banking
Online.

Ii don't have the options listed in (a) and nothing
happened after loading (b)

Thanks
Melissa

St. George Bank or Bank SA (AU, both)? Is the message coming from the
bank's website?

I'd say your bank's help pages are out-of-date, Melissa. There is no 'JIT
compiler for virtual machine' in IE6 SP2 (and I believe it was removed in
later versions of IE6 SP1, for that matter).

Start here:

How to troubleshoot problems accessing secure Web pages with Internet
Explorer 6 Service Pack 2
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;870700

I have a hunch you'll need to enable pop-ups via the Information Bar before
trying to log on at the site. (Or place the site in Trusted Sites zone *if*
it's an https:// site.)

Yes, if you are referring to XPsp1a but the first part of the instructions
(about ticking a box for JIT) could still apply to those who have been
progressively updating XP.

FWIW I finally have XPsp2 (upgraded XPsp2RC2 actually)
and I still have that option in the Advanced tab in the Microsoft VM section:
JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled (requires restart)

(I originally got MS Java with XPsp1, never installed XPsp1a
and have never installed any version of Sun Java.)

RegMon shows 3 REG_BINARY values under this subkey
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Java VM

and one more for the Display Java Applets Blocked dialog option
with a value under a different subkey.

(Those would account for all 4 checkboxes in that section.)

XP Home SP1a here, from the get-go, & now SP2 (RTM), and I do /not/ have any
reference to Microsoft VM in Tools>...>Advanced. Both machines came with
Sun Java installed (of course) and I've added & upgraded Microsoft
VM/JavaVM. So, is it a question of Home vs. Pro?

To Melissa: My bad. For some reason I thought you were running WinXP SP2.

Interesting! My guess would be that it's simply a function of
your original XPsp1a versus my continuing XPsp1.

So, you have reinstalled msjava since the XPsp2RTM update?
Do you still have that Java VM subkey I mentioned?
I don't want to do it myself (in case I now lose something <eg>)
but you could try

regsvr32 /n /i inetcpl.cpl

With luck that would generate this subkey and its values and subkeys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AdvancedOptions\JAVA_VM

BTW my RegMon filter for finding this information was
Include: java
Highlight: JIT

Good luck
