jigsaw pieces

If you mean a real template look here:

If you just mean jigsaw pieces, click AutoShapes on the drawing toolbar,
choose more Autoshapes, there is an Autoshape with jigsaw pieces.
Also in the "Training" template in the autocontent wizard you can find one
containing 6 pieces. You can find the autocontent wizard in the New
presentation task pane. Thank Glen Millar fellow MVp for that tip.

Thanks very much - I have the jigsaw template but what I need is nine pieces
making a full page - with the outside edges. I have had a look for the 6
piece one - but I can't find it - there is a nine piece bit in the training
template - but no edges. That one is made up from the autoshapes. The auto
shapes would be good - I could make my own, but they are only inside pieces.
So near - but so far :-)

I had to do 9 pieces the other day.

I used Autoshapes|More Autoshapes and typed Puzzle in the "search for" box.
I inserted the 4-piece puzzle clip that showed up in the clip art task pane.
(If you hover over it, it's called "four interlocking puzzle pieces," and
it's a WMF. If you look at properties, it's C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\MEDIA\OFFICE11\AutoShap\BD18239_.wmf)

I pressed Ctrl + Shift and dragged sideways to copy. That gave me 2 x 4
pieces. Then I selected the original and the copy and Ctrl+Shift+dragged
again. That gave me 4 x 4 pieces.

Then, with all 4 clips selected, I hit Draw|Ungroup. (You might have to hit
Ungroup twice.) Then I deleted the outside horizontal and vertical row of
pieces so I was left with 9. I recolored as desired and went on my merry
way. :-)
 
No, although I enlarged the pieces enough that the extraneous ends were cut
off a bit, suggesting a continuation. I just came across this thread and
figured I'd add info on a simple way to get a 9-piece array of jigsaw
pieces. I didn't realize straight edges was a requirement.

Not certain it was a requirement but I figured "with the outside edges."
meant that.
That's what I made anyway 4 corners, 4 edges and a centre.
