Can anybody help me please,

i`ve just clean installed windows xp home, every now and then
the pc either freezes or turns itself off , when i posted the error report
to microsoft part of their solution was to download the latest driver
download, i`m struggling to find a site with a download for a jetway
V266B. Also do i deed to update the bios driver as well while i`m doing this ??

You can get drivers for the V266B HERE :thumb:

If your PC was working fine before the clean install, then you should not need to update the bios.

Thanks for that , i`ve been on that site and there only seems
to be the manual to download and not the driver.

OK - what driver exactly are you trying to find?

Was your PC working fine with the previous XP install?

i must be going bog eyed, when i click on the link you provided
i can see the V266B link at the top relating to the manual but thats all,
am i not looking closely enough ???? i`ve tried ctrl-f to find it
in the list below but nowt shows up ????

The drivers are all those listed below that link you clicked - you then look for the relevant driver i.e. VIA LAN Driver, VIA USB Driver , VGA Driver etc.

What driver exactly do you want???????

not bog eyed, just not use to downloading these things, i`ve copied
the file into my documents, what do i do with it now ??, when i try to open
it, its says it cannot be opened as it is a .BIN file used by the operating
system

thanks for your persistance, its much appreciated by an interested amateur, as you may have concluded i`m struggling a bit with this. I`ve fished out my motherboard manual from 4 years ago, which says its the V266B users manual, what information after that am i looking for ???

LoL ... go and dig out the CD that came with it ... it will have all you need.

That motherboard uses the VIA KT266A Chipset - go to the VIA site HERE - and run the RadarSync Scan to find out what drivers need updating, download them and install :thumb:

Thanks a lot for your help, i`ve downloaded the chipset update, i`ll let you know if i`m still having problems with the pc turning itself off.

i`m still having problems which makes me think its not the driver, here`s what happens, i log on it boots up into windows , i just manage to get onto the internet then it just turns itself off, mind you it doesn`t do it every time. The most recent occurance was followed by a disk boot error please insert the system disk, when i turned the processor off and back on again the error had gone.Last week i formatted the drive and reloaded windows after getting persistant clock errors whereby the time was well astray and the calander had reverted back to 2001.i`ve been doing a bit of reading and have come across a few errors like this where one solution seems to be to replace the bios battery on the pcb, do you think this could cure these problems and does it affect the system in any way removing the old battery

After what you just said, I would recommend changing the battery ... be aware that changing the battery will reset the BIOS to a default that will require you to re-set-up to a degree.

:)

Thanks,

do you suggest that i copy all the bios settings down that are currently active before changing the battery in case the default settings are different.

I just knew you were gonna ask ... oh, I can assure you they will be different ... you can try, you can't hurt anything by looking ... :D

is it only the advance bios settings i need to worry about ??? as set up also has standard cmos features, advanced bios, advanced chipset, integrated periipherals, power management setup, pnp/pci configurations and pc health status, don`t forget that i don`t particularly know what i am doing hence why i asked whether to copy all the settings down that i can see now and replicate them once i`ve changed the battery.

It is a shame there is no program around that will allow you to back-up and or preserve the BIOS setting ... and every BIOS can be slightly different on one way or another.

When you receive a new MB the BIOS is pre-set for you ... this is very different from a factory set-up, in essence what happens when you remove the battery is you reset the BIOS back to the factory setting ... one reason I never advocate removing the battery unless you are experiencing symptoms that warrant it, such as you have described.

Because every MB set-up can be different it can be quite tiresome trying to "talk" someone through resetting the BIOS back to how it should be.

One consolation is, you will not do any damage to components as the re-set will not be set any higher than the minimum component ... in other words if the min CPU that the MB can use is a 1Ghz than you will need to make sure you set it correctly for your CPU ... same applies to RAM.

The MB manual will show you how and what everything does ... you need to know what you have in the first place.

The newer MBs, even 2-4 years old, have a lot of "auto" settings ... this is becoming more of a normality, thankfully, but on some 'cheaper' boards you may still need to know what you are doing.

:)

Thanks once again,

i`m still a wee bit puzzled about what i need to copy down and what i don`t out of the list i supplied earlier, am i best to copy everything down under every heading that is shown when i go into setup or is it just the advanced bios part that i need to be concerned with ??
