We are currently using Access 97 on Windows 2000. I have a database
residing on in a restricted access portion of the network. The
replicated copy for general users is located on the network. I have
read through many threads on this error and corrupt databases etc. We
have only one machine that gets this error when trying to open the
replicated version of the database. Other users on the same platforms
operate fine, so I do not believe the database is corrupt. I can even
open the master on that machine if I log in under my username. The
error occurs on that machine for the replicated version regardless of
who the user is. Anyone have any ideas? Any input is gresatly
appreciated. Thanks.

Okay, if the same actual file does not give the error on another computer,
even after you have seen the error on this computer, then you are correct in
concluding that it is not a corruption. There must therefore be a difference
in the setups of the 2 machines.

Check that the machine has the same service release. Help | About should
show Access 97 SR2. Locate msaccess.exe, right-click and check the version.
Is it the same as on the machine that does not have the error? Mine shows as
8.0.0.5903.

Next, search your hard disk for msjet35.dll. You should find just one copy,
probably in windows\system32. If there are multiple copies, the wrong one
might be loading. Is it the same version as on the machine that does work?
Mine is 3.51.3328.0.

Next check for dao360.dll. Just one copy? (Probably in c:\program
files\common files\microsoft shared\dao.) Same version?

Follow that process until you find the difference.
