jerky and slow

I have recently had a problem with the playback in wmm during editing, the
picture and sound go out of sync to the point where it is all distorted,
sometimes the video speeds up and tries to catch up with the audio, the total
length of my movie is only 17 minutes and if i skip forward to around 10 mins
it seems to play fine, I have used the audio from the video clips and split
it onto the audio bar and added transitions etc, the saved movie is fine and
plays well, it just makes editing very difficult can anyone help cheers .

Sometimes this is only an effect in the preview.
When you save your movie to your hard drive and then play it back it will
likely be just fine.
But if you are working with MP3 audio then this may not be the case and the
best work around then is to convert the MP3 to WAV or WMA.
