I have a 9700 pro, 1.2 athlon, 512 DDR, 266 mb, 4x agp. Jedi academy isn't
exactly the most graphically intensive game... but i'm getting horrible
framerates. it's not playable, even when i turn shadows off. Jedi knight 2
runs great. Does anyone else have this problem?

See the Jedi Academy Problems thread.

Ditto on the more CPU horsepower. I can tell the differences.

The game requires quite a bit of cpu horsepower. That's most likely your
problem

i fixed the problem! i turned off glow, and bumped my res up to 1600x1200
and the game soars now!

Anybody know exactly what that feature does? I mean besides greatly
reducing the framerate and causing annoying screen flashes. Other
than those two things, I didn't notice any difference when I switched
it off.

I don't think it works properly on ATI cards. I'm pretty sure the dynamic
glow effect is created by point sprites and Jedi Academy only supports
nVidia's OpenGL point sprite extension, which are no longer included in the
Radeon drivers.

Actually, it is a fairly intensive game. It doesn't seem to have a lot of
difference from JK2, but I believe they upped the polygon count
considerably. I'd look to your processor as the culprit here, but you could
try turning off the more intensive options in addition to shadows, such as
dynamic glow (which really upped performance on my machine, and makes an
insignificant difference to the look of the graphics).

Glad to hear it...I was hoping DG would do the trick for you. :)
