Jax,

Your repair install link worked great - repaired installation of XP went
well.

Now, though; when I right click on Start button and hit explore or open
My Computer, it takes a long time (5 minutes) for the tree to expand to
show all of my Devices, Drives, etc.

Ideas?

I had a similar problem after an in-place repair. What worked for me, and I
don't have a clue as to why, was uninstalling and reinstalling my anti-virus
software. Something was causing a huge delay in loading it on start-up. This
has worked on both NAV and AVG anti-virus software.
