I don't suppose any of you know if Powerpoint 2003 can display some of those
neat effect that are available in which I think are called javascript or
applets ... not sure.

I don't have Powerpoint 2003 three yet, but I'm hoping ... someday soon!
 
PowerPoint doesn't "speak" java. However, you can link to a web page that
contains java and it will be displayed in the browser.

In addition to what Sonia has said...

You can also export as html, add the Java by some other means, and then use
Internet Explorer to take advantage of both PowerPoint and Java. But you
would really need to know what you are doing! It is very easy to re-edit
PowerPoint's html and ruin it.
