would appreciate any clues. thanks

Greetings Jed

What you are viewing is a Java applet which is interepreted by the Java Virual Machine (JVM) which is based on Java technology. Despite the similarity of names, they're completely different. Java and Javascript are not the same. I'm not sure why it freezes when viewing a applet. I would try either two things (although they very may be a better solution): 1) Try to download the Sun's version of Java or 2) Try a Internet Explorer Repair and see if that solves your problem.

Thanks for responding Eric. The web link that is freezing for me, when you pass the cursor over the link and tooltip shows the link, it sstarts out with the word javascript. Also I am having problems installing the JRE from sun it hangs at the last screen and I have to kill it manually. and the same thing happens when I try to unistall it. This is weird because I have never had a problem installing JRE before. I am running a pretty standard install of XP Pro, nothing esoteric. Where do I actually access the IE repair feature. Thanks
