This is my first time using this forum. I'm not even sure
if I'm using MSAS properly! I hope you guys can help me
out!!
I have this trojan and I can't get rid of it. It shows up
as: JAVA_OPENSTR.A When I do a Housecall online scan the
scan freezes as soon as in finds the infected file and
will stay that way for hours. Any ideas as to how to get
rid of this?? Thanks in advance!

This is probably a virus issue, rather than a spyware issue. You mention
using Microsoft Antispyware, but not how--does Microsoft Antispyware detect
this threat? If it detects it and offers to clean it but does not succeed,
I'd try restarting in safe mode by pressing F8 function key before the
initial Windows screen appears, and then doing a full, deep scan.

If that doesn't do the job, it is a good sign that Housecall detects this.
Perhaps the next step would be to try Trend Micros System Cleaner--running
it in safe mode.

Get sysclean.exe here:

http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp
get the "sysclean package"

In addition, go here:

http://www.trendmicro.com/download/pattern.asp

and get the current pattern file. Unzip it in the same folder as
sysclean.exe.

Restart in safe mode and run sysclean.exe

These things will do you no harm on a fully patched system with Sun Java.

They were actually designed to exploit the old MSVM build 3805 and below.

To get rid of it just clear out your Sun Java cache and it will be gone.

Go to Control Panel and open the Java Plug-in Applet and click on the tab
that says Cache.
Then click the 'Clear' button, you will be asked if you want to delete the
cached files...do so.
That should get rid of it for you.

Did you disable system restore?

Did you disable system restore?

So you are going to recommend blowing away the safety net without even
checking about whether the detection involves a location in the System
restore area?
