Just got a new pc with Win XP Home installed. When visiting one of my
favorite web sits, I get a message telling me I must enable Java to view it.
It gives me blocked out areas where information should be appearing.
Looking all through IE, I no longer see a place to enable Java as I did in
Win98 SE. Where and how do I enable Java?

MS no longer distributes a Java Virtual Machine (JVM). No matter, you
can get one for free from http://java.sun.com/getjava

From Sun, I d/l j2re-1_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe and will give it a try. I
had to use the manual method as the auto d/l and install wouldn't work.

Thanx!

Greetings --

As the result of a lawsuit by Sun Microsystems, and the ensuing
settlement, Microsoft is no longer allowed to provide its own Java
Virtual Machine to Windows users. You can get almost the same
functionality by downloading Sun's version of Java from
http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html. If you want the broader
capabilities of Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine, it is still
available from a lot of 3rd-party web sites, some of which are listed
here: http://www.java-virtual-machine.net/download.html.

If you do choose the Microsoft JVM, be sure to visit Windows
Update to apply a needed security patch.
